Thai prime minister to visit Japan next month
Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra will visit Japan next month for the first time since taking office.
Japan's foreign ministry says Yingluck will arrive on March 6th and is expected to meet Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda and other leaders.
Noda and Yingluck are expected to agree to cooperate in promoting democracy in Myanmar. They are likely to discuss the situation on the Korean Peninsula after the death of the North's leader Kim Jong Il.
Yingluck is to brief Noda her country's flood control measures following last year's huge floods, which badly affected Japanese firms in the capital Bangkok and other industrial districts.
Noda is expected to inform the Thai prime minister that Japan will cooperate with Thailand to rebuild the flood-hit areas. He will also ask for more effort to improve infrastructure and help Japanese companies get back to full strength.
