Noda, Obama hold phone talks
Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda and US President Barack Obama have agreed that their countries and South Korea will strengthen cooperation for stability on the Korean Peninsula.
The 2 leaders spoke over the phone on Tuesday in the wake of the death of North Korean leader Kim Jong Il.
Noda and Obama said that they will seek cooperation from China and Russia -- members of the six-party talks for the nuclear-disarmament of North Korea -- to help maintain calm on the peninsula.
The 2 leaders also agreed to try to create an environment which allows a quick resumption of the six-party talks. This could help achieve a comprehensive solution to North Korea's development of nuclear arms and ballistic missiles.
Obama promised continued US cooperation to help solve the deadlock on North Korea's previous abduction of Japanese citizens.
