Japan downgrades travel advisory for Thailand
Japan's Foreign Ministry has reduced its travel warning for Thailand. Japanese nationals no longer need to postpone trips to areas in and around Bangkok now that damage from flooding has been contained.
The ministry is still recommending precaution when traveling to areas in and near the Thai capital. But it says draining operations have mostly contained the damage from the floods.
The ministry also lifted its travel warning against the popular tourist destination of Ayutthaya. Four other provinces along the Chao Phraya River are also considered safe. It said the flooded areas are no longer expanding. During the heavy rains the river overflowed and flooded the areas.
The ministry adds that travelers need to monitor the situation in some isolated areas off major highways that remain under water and update the travel warning periodically.
