Effects of Thai floods likely to drag on

A Japanese government survey says recent flooding in Thailand is having an extended impact on Japanese manufacturing, due to disruptions in parts supplies.

The industry ministry surveyed 67 Japanese firms over the last few weeks on the effects of the floods.

81 percent of respondents say output at their Thai plants is still lower than before the disaster.

35 percent say their Japanese production has not recovered to pre-flood levels.

The affected firms also say the impact will be prolonged. 36 percent say production -- either in Thailand or Japan -- is not likely to recover until between March and May next year.
