Japanese Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Yukio Edano held talks with Myanmar's pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi. He expressed Japan's eagerness to cooperate in the country's development projects.

The meeting took place in Myanmar's main city of Yangon on Thursday.

Edano said the situation in Myanmar has improved in the last year. He noted Japan plans to help stabilize the country's economy and improve people's standard of living.

Edano specifically related Japan is ready to help revamp the country's electrical and water systems in tandem with the movement toward democratization.

Aung San Suu Kyi responded by saying that the issue of ethnic minorities should be taken into account when developing Myanmar's economy.
