China to hold key policy meeting in November
China's ruling Communist Party is to hold a key policy meeting in November to debate ways to promote reforms.
The state-run Xinhua news agency reported on Tuesday that the party leadership led by President Xi Jinping has decided to hold a Central Committee meeting to discuss important issues.
Measures to sustain stable growth are likely to be on the agenda, as concern grows about the prospects for the Chinese economy.
The items for discussion would include easing regulations on land use and the family registration system to invigorate the economy and expand consumption. Another possible topic is streamlining state-run firms to address overproduction.
But vested interests are likely to resist such changes. It remains to be seen whether the meeting can come up with bold policies.
Meanwhile, the government is increasingly wary of public frustration with corruption among senior party officials and bureaucrats.
China's government is expected to stress its commitment to fight corruption to win the people's support.
